Falling in Love

myspace glitters

After I read an article about walking in love and not falling in love, I began to ponder. I've always questioned it before. I used that phrase, too. Maybe a million times. hahaha! When I surrendered my life to GOD, this phrase has been my 'OCD.' hahaha!

Then, I had a revelation when Cody was here. We talked about it and as I was trying to explain it to him, revelations start flowing in my head. I tried to find the phrase in the Bible. This is what i found...

1 Samuel 18:20 (NLT)
"In the meantime, Saul’s daughter Michal had fallen in love with David, and Saul was delighted when he heard about it."

The only verse that has 'fall in love' in it. Nothing in NIV or KJV versions.

I also never believed in 'love at first sight.' Too corny and false. hahaha! I've always believed that when you fall in love, you fall out of love. Love is a process. Too confusing or unacceptable? Here is a clearer explanation as what the Bible says...

2 John 1:6
"And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love."

Ephesians 4:15-16
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."

2 Thessalonians 1:3
"We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing."

If we can see, the verbs used were...
1) walk - to pursue a course of life
2) grow - to increase in any way; to become larger and stronger; to advance; to extend
3) build up - to increase and strengthen; to increase the power and stability of; establish, and preserve
4) increase - To become greater or more in size, quantity, number, degree, value, intensity, power, authority, reputation, wealth; to grow; to augment; to advance

When we accepted CHRIST and absorbed HIS teachings and chose to obey them, from the OT, the NT stated that there are 2 commandments left. We'll just study the second one which is...

Mark 12:31
The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

Since it's a commandment of GOD, in order to prove that we love HIM, we obey HIM by loving others. First is neighborly love. A love commanded by GOD but with a willing heart. The special person in your life is given to you for you to love with a neighborly love at first. In worldly terms, it starts with friendship. And as the days, weeks, months and years go by, that love grows. You never just wake up thinking that you already 'fall in love' because in the first place, it is already a command. Love is a process not an instant emotion.

If everything went to courtship, then the love is progressing. As what is written, love is defined as...

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails..."

All I know is that I never fell in love with Cody. My love just grows more each day. I've proven that neighborly love by never leaving or forsaking him and I never will. To GOD be the glory!
