Wandering Spirit (September 18, 2008)

Preached by Pastor Windsor Cabrera

1 Timothy 5:13
"Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to."

Cain
~first wanderer in the Bible
~first vagabond (Genesis 4:12)
Deutoronomy 21:18-21
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.

Satan
~very first wanderer

Psalm 109:10
"May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes."

Acts 19:13-16
Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out." Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. (One day) the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

Job 1:6-7
One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."

1 Peter 5:8
"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

Luke 15:11-15
Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.

"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.

3 Lessons from the Experience of the Prodigal Son

1.) a wanderer is always a sorrowful person

Philippians 4:4
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!"

2.) a wanderer's spirit causes demotion

*When you're not doing your calling, you are a wanderer.
*Wandering is not doing something but doing something that is not supposed to be done.

3.) a wanderer is always in a far country

*can be physically but more on mentally and spiritually

4.) vagabond people are always very selfish

*You can never replace GOD's calling, there is only one calling.

Matthew 24:12
"Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,"

2 Timothy 3:1-4
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—"

3 advice (D's)

1. Determination
Proverbs 22:6
"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."

2. Devotion
Revelation 2:10
"Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life."

3. Direction
Psalm 37:23
"If the LORD delights in a man's way, He makes his steps firm;"

DO NOT BE A WANDERER! BE GOD'S WARRIOR!

Make an impact. Make a difference. Make a ripple. Tip the scale.

ALL THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD ALONE!!!

P.U.S.H.

When you feel GOD's love, OVERFLOW!
